Google Play Store turns 10 years : Google’s Google Play Store completes 10 years. Google first introduced this ecosystem to the world in 2012. Since then it has become so popular that now 2.5 billion or 250 crore people in 190 countries use Google Play Store’s apps, games and digital content every month. On this occasion, Google said on Tuesday that the company is going to continue investing in India for local opportunities and challenges so that we can continue to build good and important apps on Google Play Store.
10 Years of Google Play Store in India
In 2012, Google launched the Google Play Store globally with India.
After this, the year 2017 Google introduced Google Play Protect to protect users.
In 2018, Google launched Google Play Academy to enhance the e-learning platform.
In the same year, Google launched the indie Games Accelerator to support the gaming startup.
In the year 2019, UPI was included to promote online payment.
Google Play Console was launched in the year 2020 to increase the business of the developer.
Google introduced Appscale Academy in the year 2021-22.
In 2022 Google launched Play Pass and Offers in India.
In the same year Google launched the Data Safety section to protect the users and know the data consumption of the app.
Popular Indian Apps and Games Worldwide
On this occasion, Aditya Swamy, Director, Google India Play Partnership, said that Indian apps and games are being liked across the world. In the last two years alone, the popularity of these apps has also seen a 150 percent increase. India is witnessing popularity in terms of education, payment, health, entertainment, and gaming. Health-related apps are also being preferred in India. Also Hindi and local language apps are also being liked a lot. Indian apps and games have also seen a 200% increase in monthly active users. We will continue to invest in these opportunities and challenges in India so that we can continue to build good and important apps on Google Play Store.
India at the forefront of Play Store usage
Aditya Swamy, Director, Google India Play Partnership, further said that working with us, about two million people have set up their business. We want every single developer’s idea to be accessible to people all over the world. India is also at the fore in terms of download and use of apps from Google Play Store. He said that we are seeing that many people are getting jobs and global opportunities on our platform every day.
Google Play gets New Logo
“That year, we opened the (digital) doors of Google Play,” said Google Play vice president Tian Lim in a statement. A decade later, more than 2.5 billion people in more than 190 countries use Google Play every month to search for apps, games and digital content, and over two million developers use Google Play to build their businesses and reach people around the world. The purpose of the new logo reflects the magic of Google and matches the branding shared by many of our useful products – Search, Assistant, Photos, Gmail and more, he said. The new logo has rounded corners in its triangle and has four sections in blue, red, yellow and green colors. This logo is now visible for the users in India.
10x More Play Points
The company has also disclosed the list of apps that define the generation. This includes WhatsApp, PhonePe, Truecaller, Amazon India, Flipkart, Disney + Hotstar, MX Player, JioSaavn, Paytm and ShareChat. Additionally, Google Play will offer members of its Rewards Program 10x more Play Points on purchases including in-app items. The start date of the promotion may vary from country to country.
