Sugarcane Farmers: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the green light to a landmark Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane in the upcoming 2024-25 Sugar Season. At ₹340/quintal and a sugar recovery rate of 10.25%, this decision marks an 8% increase over the current season’s FRP. Effective from October 1, 2024, this move ensures the fulfilment of Modi ki Guarantee to double farmers‘ income.
A Sweet Benefits for Sugarcane Farmers
The approved FRP of ₹340/quintal, with a 10.25% recovery rate, signifies a groundbreaking 8% boost compared to the previous season. Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to doubling farmers’ income is taking shape with this historic decision.
Prosperity Beyond Fields of Sugarcane Farming
Surpassing the A2+FL cost by 107%, this FRP guarantees the prosperity of sugarcane farmers, numbering over 5 crores. Despite India already paying the world’s highest sugarcane prices, the government ensures affordable sugar for domestic consumers, benefiting millions across the sugar sector.
Sugarcane Crop Pricing for Farmers
With a meticulous pricing strategy, farmers are assured ₹340/quintal at a 10.25% recovery rate. Each 0.1% increase in recovery brings an additional ₹3.32, while a reduction deducts the same amount. Even at a 9.5% recovery rate, farmers are guaranteed a minimum of ₹315.10/quintal.
Modi Sarkar’s Decade of Farmer Empowerment
Over the past ten years, the Modi government has diligently ensured farmers receive the right price for their crops at the right time. Timely interventions have led to the lowest pending cane arrears in the history of the sugar sector, with 99.5% of the previous season’s dues already settled.
Self-Sustainability and Government Support
With strategic policy interventions, sugar mills have achieved self-sustainability, receiving no financial assistance from the government since the 2021-22 Sugar Season. Despite this, the Central Government maintains its commitment to ‘Assured FRP and Assured Procurement,’ securing the well-being of sugarcane farmers.
